7.1 Dependent Variable

The variable (quantity or phenomenon) you are trying to explain in terms of other variables. For example if you want to explain why authors publish books, you might count the number of books they publish in a year, and this would be your dependent variable which you then compare to various or a single independent variable(s) which allow you to test explanations for the dependent variable.
